The Raedwald Trust pays high regard to organising pupil’s learning experiences: curriculum design always responds to individual learner’s needs and curriculum choices are regularly reviewed, with all stakeholders, so we can be confident we are providing an exceptional learning experience, every hour of every day. Our highly personalised and flexible approach is framed by three key questions:
What is the specific intention of the chosen learning programme?
What is the best implementation route for the learning programme?
What is the impact of the learning programme?
Against these measures, our learners thrive in an environment of high expectation.
Pupils attending First Base Bury St Edmunds Academy follow an individualised curriculum focused on their next steps for learning. Staff assess the pupils current levels of achievement, their preferred learning styles and together with their ‘preferred future’ target, then offer activities designed to accelerate learning progress.
Nurture Group 1 is currently organised as an EYFS style group, with play based learning opportunities and routines of a mainstream Early Years Nurture Group.
Nurture Group 2 is currently organised as a KS1 style group, offering the routines and approach of mainstream school Nurture Group.
Phonics teaching is integrated into both groups currently using the Letters and Sounds structure. As our pupils come from a mixture of settings we are sensitive to try and support the approach they are learning through in their school.
Our main scheme is Jelly and Bean, supplemented with Rigby and other books relevant to the interests of our children.
