Raedwald Trust has joined up with local schools to promote our inclusion project “Silence is Compliance”, inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.
The project will involve partnering schools conducting internal audits on diversity in policies, procedures and culture. There will also be training and awareness programmes delivered through online webinars as well as pupil engagement projects focussing on the project’s theme.
Collaboratively projects include inter-school, Black Lives Matter inspired podcasts, drama and art projects. There are also plans for a music video with inspirational quotes from black historical figures.
The first in our series of webinars ‘An Introduction to Institutional Racism in Education’, was run by Professor Gill Crozier – Professor of Education from the University of Roehampton.

Title: Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race
Author: Reni Eddo-Lodge
Details: Author is black British based in London. This means most of her illustrations are from UK and feel authentic.
Title: White Fragility
Author: Robin Diangelo
Details: Author is white American. She specialises in training staff in a whole variety of settings about racism. Some of the best bits are when she challenges stereotypes and upsets her audience. She also includes illustrations, though, of when she is challenged by people of colour (a phrase both authors favour as compared with BAME or BME) about some of the things she says and attitudes they claim she demonstrates. Many of her illustrations are from USA and although there is resonance with what is happening in UK they don’t feel quite as authentic.
