Cycling for the NHS
Pupils from First Base Ipswich Academy have completed a sponsored bike ride to raise money for NHS Charities Together.
Inspired by Captain Tom Moore and his amazing fundraising walk, three boys from First Base Ipswich Academy, part of the Raedwald Trust, decided that they could also help to support the NHS – but this time by cycling!
On Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th April, the boys cycled a whopping 350 laps around the track in the First Base playground.
To spread the word about their endeavour, the boys made a video which their teachers shared on the internal staff blog. Staff then set up a Just Giving page for the pupils to help boost donations.
After the first day of cycling the boys didn’t have many donations, but they were resilient and carried on. After a quick lesson about using persuasive language, the boys then created a second video encouraging people to donate. They have amazingly managed to raise almost £600 so far.
Stacey Laws, Head Teacher at First Base Ipswich Academy said: “The boys were pretty exhausted by the end of the second day but they were (rightly) very proud of themselves.
“We are extremely proud of the kindness they have shown and their motivation to do something to support the NHS. They showed real resilience and great community spirit.”
