Our Pathways

KS4 Haven Plus HC Pathway

KS4 Haven Plus HC Pathway Purpose: The pathway is intended to support children’s education with their mainstream school and placed on dual roll. The pathway is designed for pupils who require carefully structured provision to ensure stability, continuity and progress. It aims to provide a safe, stable and supportive framework that addresses both academic and SEMH needs, while strengthening connection to their peers, routines and curriculum. The placement outcome is for pupils to be positioned for successful reintegration into mainstream and/or a confident transition to their next educational stage.

Timescales & Support

Placements on this pathway typically last up to two years and timetables are co-constructed with the home school and other professionals as required. The support within this pathway is highly flexible and may include:

  • Daily attendance routines (e.g. start of the day – registration)
  • Integration at social times with peers
  • Supported access to home school lessons
  • Small group or one-to-one teaching
  • Pastoral or hub group support
  • Identification of additional barriers including home circumstances/school observations/ SEND/ Young Carers/ Financial hardship etc.

Curriculum

The is derived directly from the National Curriculum for Key Stage 4. It is designed as a concentric curriculum (revisited but taught explicitly) or sequential (chunked and taught once for mastery) dependent on different subject areas. Conscious decisions about subject delivery have been made to ensure long-term knowledge acquisition appropriate to the pupils’ age/stage of development. Subject programmes of study span from Year 7 to Year 11 objectives dependent on the age/stage at admission. All pupils will access explicitly taught reading lessons (in addition to English lessons). These are delivered using our Raedwald Trust Readers for Life Curriculum.

Following updates to the School Sport and Activity Action plan, we are keen to be partners in ensuring all pupils have equal access to a high-quality P.E. curriculum and that all benefit from regular physical exercise. This pathway can offer students the opportunity to engage in physical education through healthy participation and the wider pillars of progression. The proportionality of P.E. delivered will be bespoke.

At Key Stage 4, we do not deliver all subjects within the National Curriculum and if a pupil has chosen specific option subjects not available through our pathway, the full responsibility for delivery will remain with the home school. Such areas include History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, P.E. (agreed additional hours to supplement our offer up to 90 minutes per week). For pupils entered for single science or English literature, we will work with you to understand how our existing science and English curriculum programmes of study can support exam entries for your pupil.

Additional support for post-16 transition will be incorporated into each curriculum area and specifically the PSHE curriculum structure. Conscious decision making about the curriculum is detailed within programmes of study; curriculum sequencing is detailed within subject curriculum overviews.

For pupils who remain with us during GCSE examinations, mainstream schools will make exam entries and pupils can sit exams in their home school or a transfer arrangement (if all involved believe this would be most suitable for the pupil) can be agreed for them to sit exams at a Raedwald Trust site. If this arrangement is requested, home school would be responsible for this application. If access arrangements are required, mainstream schools would be responsible for the submission of Form 8/9 JCQ applications and other relevant exam board applications; access testing costs and responsibilities can be discussed at appropriate review meetings.

Where additional needs are identified, staff may deliver bespoke interventions, such as:

  • PE Health and Well-being curriculum
  • Life Essentials curriculum (SEMH, resilience, independence skills)

Assessment

During the induction period, staff will work alongside the Raedwald Trust Assessment Centre to obtain baseline information that will help us to inform future teaching. Pupil progress will be tracked against the baseline and shared with home schools on a 6-weekly cycle. Information will be recorded in a Pupil Support Plan and shared with the home school, and wider professionals where required.

If/when the significant gaps or additional needs are identified, this will be fed back to the home school SENCo who may direct intervention to be delivered by Raedwald staff as part of the pathway offer.  These identified interventions will be assessed according to the APDR cycle, directed by the home-school and in some cases facilitated by Raedwald Trust staff and shared with the parents/carers.
