[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Next Steps Medical Pathway Purpose: <\/b>intended to support pupils from Year 9-11 who have a diagnosed medical, including mental health, need and who are usually under the care of medical practitioners. <\/span><\/p>\n

The pathway supports the pupil\u2019s mainstream setting to identify underlying SEND needs that may support onward referrals for additional input. Pupils attend the Next Steps Medical pathway in line with clinician\u2019s advice and a co-constructed programme is targeted to address the significant barriers pupils face to accessing a mainstream school offer. The purpose is to ensure that pupils are not disadvantaged educationally or socially due to their illness or medical condition. The programme will offer SEMH support alongside the building blocks to help the learner either succeed in their mainstream, school or move to more specialist provision.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>All pupils need to be on a mainstream school roll and following a careful induction facilitated by the Raedwald Trust assessment centre, push and pull factors are identified and a bespoke curriculum is designed along with their mainstream school. This may include access to telepresence solutions to facilitate remote learning when mainstream site attendance is not an option.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Timescales<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The intention is that pupils will be supported on this pathway for 1 \u2013 4 terms, dependant on progress and medical advice. This may vary dependant on the pupil and ongoing assessment of their progress on the pathway.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Curriculum<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Raedwald Trust staff will deliver teaching sessions for two days a week in core subjects, food technology; PSHE and Health and Wellbeing. Daily Thrive and Reading sessions are timetabled and offered for all students.\u00a0 One hour a week outreach support is also offered to aid mainstream curriculum delivery e.g. AV1 robot support sessions or similar.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In some cases, the Assessment Centre may identify areas of need that could be supported and delivered as an intervention during the placement. In this case, this would be offered as part of the bespoke package in accordance with the home-school SENCo.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We work closely with mainstream schools to ensure the most impactful educational package is in place over the week in line with realistic outcomes given the pupil\u2019s medical need and following clinician advice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Assessment<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the induction period, pupil Individual Healthcare Plans will be used to ensure educational expectations are in line with clinical advice. Baseline assessments are undertaken. A baseline is created, which is re-visited across placement and progress shared with both the home-school and parents\/carers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
